Arabella Linux
Arabella Linux is our flagship product. Its main differentiators from standard Linux distributions are in the following key areas:
Device drivers
Most standard Linux drivers offer only minimal support for device functionality and are full of board-level dependencies. Arabella has totally re-written most of the drivers it uses to directly address these problems. We provide the most complete, robust and optimized drivers currently available in a Linux distribution.
System-On-Chip (SoC) support
Standard Linux solutions for many SoC devices require compile-time selection of peripherals, their modes of operation and configuration parameters; this greatly restricts the functionality of your product. Arabella drivers allows you to enable/disable peripherals, completely re-configure them, re-assign parallel I/O pins and almost anything else in run-time, via standard management techniques. In many modern, multi-service systems, this is usually an absolute necessity.
Fast-path/slow-path separation
Many advanced processors support the partitioning of fast-path/slow-path processing, where fast paths of applications are handled in either micro-code or hardware blocks. This requires support in the software – for control, management, error handling, etc. Arabella offers unique solutions for such environments based on its modifications of standard Linux modules. This results in standard Linux modules that generate a huge throughput boost by exploiting hardware capabilities and accelerations.
**NEW** Expedited Fast Path Products (EFP Products)
Based on Arabella's Asymmetrical Multi-Processor architecture and using microcode acceleration blocks for Freescale’s communications processor module (CPM) and QUICC Engine™, EFP products offer unparalleled performance on standard PowerQUICC processors. The EFP solutions operate at 400K packets per second with worst case packet sizes of 64k bytes. The first EFP products include EFP Bridging, a fully integrated bridging solution and EFP-Tri, a triple-play services solution, EFP Routing a full routing package that works with any routing protocols and EFP NAT a full featured Network Address Translation package.
Applications
Arabella offers a range of integrated open-source applications that are ideally suited for many embedded applications. These span areas such as security (IPsec, firewalls, etc), management (SNMP, HTTP and other), high-availability frameworks (including full system redundancy schemes) and powerful diagnostics tools, all based on our customization of standard open-source tools.
